Queens & Cowboys: A Straight Year on the Gay Rodeo

The High Desert Museum presents a special screening of “QUEENS & COWBOYS: A Straight Year on the Gay Rodeo.” The award-winning film documents a season of the rodeo circuit, spotlighting the action and presenting the story of five participants whose experiences and struggles challenge every stereotype and assumption viewers have ever had about cowgirls and cowboys and the western culture. As he presents a moving portrait of this little-known subculture, director Matt Livadary explores the many stresses within the IGRA and the strength it takes to embrace and celebrate identity within the LGBTQ community. Livadary, along with featured rodeo cowboy Wade Earp, will lead an in-person Q&A discussion following the film. Members, $7; Non-members, $10. Doors open at 6:30 and the Rimrock Café will be open for food and drinks.
