Dykes on Bikes- Central Oregon Pridefest

Happy Pride Month!!! Whether you own a scooter or a chopper, a dual sport or a crotch rocket, all women (completely Queer or awesome Allies) who ride a motorized two wheeled bike are welcome to ride out to Pride! The plan is to meet up at Spoken Moto at 10:30am the morning of Pride (Saturday June 23), hang out there until 11:20am and then be on the road by 11:25am. The planned route takes us around town in a round about way, SEE Google Link:

The end of the ride will take us to Harmon Park where space will be reserved for us to park the bikes. Since we want to be at Pride by noon, kick stands will be up by 11:20am and on the road by 11:25am! That’s a hard start, no waiting for late folks, sorry. Tell all your lady friends who ride or want to ride on the back of a motorbike to come join us! Bring your rainbows and fag shwag, leather, glitter and glam. If you have any questions, feel free to post in the discussion or private message.

Please RSVP so we can know how many ladies to expect on the ride and plan accordingly 🙂

-Fearless leader Madelinn

PS. If you’re an experience rider and want to help coordinate the group ride (momentarily block traffic at round-abouts to keep the group whole) send us a message!

Pride Month Proclamation

Bend City Counsel member Barb Campbell will be having the Human Dignity Coalition and citizens of Bend accept a proclamation to recognize June as Pride Month!

While pride month has been recognized and celebrated since 1970, Bend has never officially recognized this worldwide event.
This proclamation is just one of many steps needed for Central Oregon to show true solidarity with our fellow LGBTQ+ Oregonians.

If you are interested in standing with us to witness this historic moment, come out to City Hall this Wednesday, June 6th at 6pm! Wear your pride gear! Bring pride flags and make signs! Show your solidarity, and increase the visibility for our community and our pride. The power in our numbers and the strength of our voices will help to show City Hall and all of Bend who we are, and what we stand for in our community! Bend is constantly striving to promote diversity, inclusion, and pride in our community! Let’s hold true to our promises and vision for a better Bend! Let’s stand up for the rights and visibility of our neighbors, our friends, our families, and our broader Bend community! Make a difference and stand with us, to help kick off our very first officially recognized Pride event!

We Were Here movie poster the aids years in san francisco

‘We Were Here’ – Q&A

Join us for an evening of great film and conversation with director David Weissman for the screening of ‘We Were Here’ at Central Oregon Community College Hitchcock auditorium.

Emmy-nominated for Outstanding Historical Documentary and Independent Spirit Award nominee for Best Documentary, ‘We Were Here’ is about the early years of the HIV/AIDS in the 1980s. The movie illuminates the profound personal and community issues raised by the AIDS epidemic as well as the broad political and social upheavals it unleashed. It provides a deep and reflective look at the arrival and impact of AIDS in San Francisco and how so many individuals rose to the occasion during the first years of this unimaginable crisis.

While the movie may appear to be emotionally challenging to watch, director David Weissman stated that the documentary “is really a love letter to San Francisco. It celebrates a community that came together under extremely challenging circumstances and did so with love, creativity, and incredible commitment.”

This event will be further marked by Deschutes County Health Services launching their new HIV testing and outreach van. The outreach van will increase the availability of HIV testing services at various locations and events in Crook, Deschutes, and Jefferson counties. The outreach van is part of Deschutes County Health Services’ recently-awarded HIV Early Prevention and Outreach Services grant from the Oregon Health Authority.

Representatives from Deschutes County Health Services (as well as the HIV testing and outreach van!) will be present at the movie screening.  They will present a brief talk outlining the HIV-related services they provide in the tri-county area in Central Oregon.

In 2017, OUT Central Oregon partnered with Deschutes County Health Services to bring HIV testing and information to the annual Central Oregon Pride day in Drake Park. We are excited to assist in making HIV testing, information, and education more accessible to our Central Oregon community.

This is a unique opportunity for our community to view this inspirational documentary. We are honored to have director David Weissman present at the screening for questions & answers and informative discussions about the documentary and the current state of HIV in our community.  Additionally, Deschutes County Health Services will inform and educate us about about HIV testing and early prevention services available here in Central Oregon.

This is a free event (donations appreciated), open to the public, and youth-appropriate
Doors open at 5:30 PM; movie starts at 6:00 PM
COCC Campus, Hitchcock Auditorium in 201 Pioneer

Additionally, this event will be further marked by launch of Deschutes county health department’s new HIV testing and outreach van. Representatives from Deschutes county health department, as well as their newly procured outreach van, will be present at the movie screening, providing information on the many services they provide.

KPOV interviewed OUT Central Oregon, HDC, and Deschutes County Health about this event on May 29, 2018 on their morning program The Point!

You can check out the interview here:

This event is made possible, in part, due to the generous financial support of Gilead Sciences and Oregrown.
